The fourth season of The Witcher will feature Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt. However, he will not meet an important character in the Netflix sequel.
The dynamic between Geralt of Rivia and Ciri, his child of surprise, is arguably the most important driving force in the Netflix series The Witcher. As a result, many fans are wondering not only whether Liam Hemsworth can convince as the future Henry Cavill replacement, but also whether the chemistry between the main characters will still be the same after the change of actor. However, we won’t find out in season 4.
Spoiler alert:
Ciri and Geralt will not meet in The Witcher season 4
At the end of The Witcher season 3, Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) went their separate ways, signaling that the witcher family would not be reunited for a long time. And indeed, actress Freya Allan confirmed in an interview with Screenrant that she and Liam Hemsworth don’t have a single scene together in season 4:
There is no relationship this season. Ciri is on her own path and he’s on his own path, so it’s like, ‘Forget Geralt. That’s what Ciri has on her mind. ‘Let’s try to push that away. This never happened. Now I’m Falka; I’m not Ciri.’
For viewers of the Netflix series, the complete split of the stories of Geralt and Ciri certainly comes as a surprise – but not for fans of the book series. Season 4 of The Witcher is based on the third volume of the Witcher novel series by Andrzej Sapkowski, in which the three main characters do not meet at all. And that will not change until the fifth and final book.
In the original trilogy and season 4, Geralt begins his search for his foster daughter and meets several new allies on his journey across the continent. Meanwhile, Ciri joins a gang of rats and begins a new life as a thief under the name Falka, while Yennefer, as a member of the coven, also has her hands full. Will the witcher family ever be reunited? We won’t find out until season 5.
For Liam Hemsworth, the strict separation from other main characters is both a curse and a blessing. He has to prove himself almost single-handedly (at least Rittspur is at his side) as the new Geralt of Rivia. However, his interaction with Ciri and Yennefer in season 4 will not be subject to constant comparisons to Henry Cavill’s interpretation of the role.
