It’s not even December yet, and yet a raunchy Christmas movie is dominating the Netflix charts. John Wick and a horror movie look old against it.
With the romantic comedy The Merry Gentlemen, Netflix is celebrating XXX-Mas early. And it’s a proven success, with the seasonal stripper saga beating titles like the action movie John Wick, the horror film Tarot and the animated adventure Spellbound in the streaming service’s charts – and currently ranks at number 1.

In The Merry Gentlemen by director Peter Sullivan and screenwriter Marla Sokoloff, Broadway dancer Ashley (Britt Robertson) returns to her hometown just before Christmas. When she learns that her parents (Beth Broderick and Michael Gross) are on the verge of losing their performance theater called The Rhythm Room due to financial difficulties, she quickly comes up with a lucrative plan.
Ashley puts together a male stripper revue called The Merry Gentlemen and has already set her sights on the perfect guys for the job: local carpenter Luke (Chad Michael Murray), her brother-in-law Rodger (Marc Anthony Samuel) and bartender Troy (Colt Prattes). Of course, it doesn’t take long for sparks to fly between the dancer from New York and one of the small-town men.
