Amazon Prime now has the surprisingly good sequel to one of the most popular horror films of all time. It is about a 40-year nightmare.
If you like horror, you can’t get around The Shining. This horror masterpiece by Stanley Kubrick (2001) is considered a milestone in the genre. Many fans were all the more surprised when a sequel actually made it to the cinema 39 years later with Doctor Sleep’s awakening. The sequel is now available on Amazon Prime Video.
On Amazon Prime: Horror sequel as disturbing as its predecessor
In The Shining, young Danny (Danny Lloyd in the 1980 film) only just escapes the ax of his father (Jack Nicholson), who has gone mad and locked himself in the remote Overlook Hotel with his wife and child. Almost 30 years later, the adult Dan (Ewan McGregor) is still traumatized and suppresses his memories and telepathic gift with alcohol.
In 2019, he is cured of his addiction and learns of a sinister group called The True Knot, who testify to telepaths like him the soul essence. This allows them to extend their lifespan and theoretically become ancient. Dan finally stands in the way of the soul vampires’ cruel desires and even returns to the Overlook Hotel to do so.
Here is another trailer for the Shining sequel:
Doctor Sleep may not reach the dense atmosphere of Kubrick’s masterpiece, but it is still a good horror movie. Genre veteran Mike Flanagan (Spuk in Hill House) also shows scenes of horrific cruelty that will disturb many fans just as much as the blood fountains from the famous predecessor.
