The long-awaited horror sequel 28 Years Later caused a stir with its trailer. With 60.2 million views, it is the second most successful horror preview of all time.

18 years after the second film, filmmaker Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) unleashes the rampaging zombies from 28 Days Later again in 28 Years Later. The official trailer for the film is already a minor horror sensation.

With 60.2 million views in 24 hours (according to Deadline), the Sony Pictures production is the second most successful horror trailer of all time. However, there is an even more successful one, which received 96 million international views in the same time frame.

The Stephen King adaptation IT Chapter Two took the record for most views for a horror trailer in just one day. The success of the preview is due to the same secret ingredient: editor Bill Neil. After a few days, his 28 Years Later trailer had already collected over 146 million global views, making it the most-watched horror teaser of the year.

In 28 Years Later, not 28 days or 28 weeks have passed since the start of the zombie apocalypse, but – you guessed it – 28 years. The celebrated preview gives us a glimpse of what the world looks like now and how dangerous the nimble monsters of wrath still are, which have so little in common with George A. Romero’s living dead.

One zombie in particular caused a stir in the trailer, which many identified as Cillian Murphy before the Guardian revealed the gaunt undead as UK art dealer Angus Neill. But Murphy is indeed in the cast, as are Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and others.
