The plot of Top Gun: Maverick begins many years after the events of the first part. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is now a test pilot for the US Navy. However, he won’t be able to keep this job for much longer, because on his latest test flight, he goes directly against his superior’s orders.
As a result, he is relieved of his post and ends up back at the elite flight school Top Gun. There he is supposed to train a new generation of pilots and prepare them for a dangerous mission. Before they know it, Maverick himself is in the cockpit leading the mission, which leads to further conflicts.
