Adolescence season 2 is becoming more and more likely: talks are now underway, but there are conditions

Actually, Adolescence should be a miniseries. After the great Netflix success, however, they are now considering a second season. Initial talks are underway.

Netflix spends hundreds of millions of dollars on sci-fi blockbusters like The Electric State – and then it’s a small British miniseries like Adolescence that gets talked about internationally for weeks. No wonder the producers behind the four-part real-time format want to at least think about whether a second season might be in the cards.

The producers behind Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment, which is behind Adolescence, are currently thinking along these lines. But nothing is official yet.

Initial talks for a second season of Adolescence are underway, but a completely new approach is to be taken

As Deadline reports, initial talks are currently underway regarding the future of Adolescence, which could result in a second season for the surprise hit. According to producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B, however, they have conditions: they want to “broaden the perspective, stay true to the DNA [of the series], not become repetitive”. A completely new approach in the sense of an anthology series seems most likely. However, they hope to be able to count on the two co-creators Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne again.

Incidentally, it wouldn’t be the first time that Netflix changed its mind about actually completed miniseries. Even 13 Reasons Why and Beef were only extended for further seasons after their success.

What is Adolescence actually?

The dramatic UK crime series Adolescence takes a close look at how 13-year-old boy Jamie Miller (newcomer Owen Cooper) is arrested after allegedly killing his classmate – and how the difficult-to-comprehend act affects the overwhelmed environment. The series spent a long time at number 1 on the Netflix charts and was only dethroned today by a German format.

Adolescence received special attention not only because of the charged topic, but also because of the special way it was made: the series uses so-called one-shots, which manage without visible cuts.
