Les vétos: French comedy about a determined young lady who, against her will, helps out as a veterinarian in her provincial home.
Film plot and background
Determined Alex (Noémie Schmidt) left everything behind for her career path in Paris and vowed not to return to her home in the French provinces anytime soon. She has passed her veterinary diploma, now she wants to make a career in microbiology. But when her uncle Michel (Michel Jonasz) lures her back with a trick, he drops the bomb in front of the entire family: Alex, of all people, is to be his successor in the local veterinary practice so that he can finally retire.
His previous partner Nico (Clovis Cornillac) doesn’t think much of the idea at first and believes that Alex is far too inexperienced. At the same time, he is simply overwhelmed by the daily workload. She is supposed to help out over the summer before starting her job in Paris in September. She is slowly gaining the practical experience that has been rather lacking in her studies so far, but often has to show brains when it comes to treating the animals. However, the trust between pet owners and Alex does not want to occur, as she is probably much too brash and honest in dealing with four-legged friends, birds and other animals.
“Suddenly to the Country” – background, cast, cinema release
With a French comedy about veterinary medicine, director Julie Manoukian and producer Yves Marmion pay homage to the quiet heroines in the countryside who often do a back-breaking job but don’t get anywhere near the recognition they deserve.
Top stars in the leading roles around Clovis Cornillac (“Asterix at the Olympic Games”) and Noémie Schmidt (“Breakfast at Monsieur Henri’s”) round off the overall concept that has its heart in the right place. In France, more than a million viewers have already flocked to the cinemas. In Germany, “Suddenly in the Country” will be released on 6 January 2022.
