Showtime has released the official George & Tammy trailer for its upcoming biographical limited drama starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain. The series is scheduled to make its debut on Sunday, December 4.
The video highlights the relationship between famous country musicians Tammy Wynette and George Jones as they navigate the highs and lows of fame and success.
George & Tammy is created and executive produced by Abe Sylvia. The miniseries stars Oscar winner Jessica Chastain as Tammy Wynette and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon as George Jones. They are joined by Steve Zahn (The White Lotus), Kelly McCormack (A League of Their Own), Walton Goggins (The Righteous Gemstones), Pat Healy (Station 19), David Wilson Barnes (Perry Mason), and Katy Mixon (American Housewife).
“The limited drama chronicles the country music power couple, Tammy Wynette and George Jones, whose complicated-but-enduring relationship inspired some of the most iconic music of all time,” reads the synopsis. “Remembered as the ‘First Lady of Country Music,’ Wynette’s most successful song ‘Stand by Your Man’ remains one of the most iconic and best-selling country singles by a female artist. George Jones’ song ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today,’ is still widely called the greatest country song of all time. With over 30 number-one country songs between them, including duets ‘We’re Gonna Hold On,’ ‘Golden Ring,’ and ‘Near You,’ George and Tammy’s legacy, both musically and romantically, remains one of the greatest love stories ever told.”
George & Tammy is based on the book, The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George, penned by the couple’s daughter, Georgette Jones. It is executive produced by Chastain, Andrew Lazar, Josh Brolin, Kelly Carmichael, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, and John Hillcoat.
