Playmobil Movie: In the first Playmobil cinema film, the colourful world of the big blocks is brought to life through wonderful 3D animation – with Daniel Radcliffe as the narrator.
Plot and background
Playmobil is just a silly children’s toy – or is it? When young Charlie (voiced by Gabriel Bateman in the original) is suddenly drawn into the huge Playmobil universe, his big sister Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy) can’t believe her eyes. Just a moment ago, Charlie was standing in front of her. But before Marla knows it, she too is drawn into the world of blocks and finds herself on the other side as a real Playmobil figure.
Marla needs a moment to get her bearings. Her little brother has disappeared somewhere in the vast world. Together with the charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher (Daniel Radcliffe), the scheduled food truck owner Del (Jim Gaffigan) and a lively fairy (Meghan Trainor), Marla sets out to find her brother. Why were they drawn into the Playmobil world in the first place. Is the evil Emperor Maximus (pop star Adam Lambert) perhaps behind the kidnapping?

“Playmobil – The Movie” – Background
Lego has already shown how wonderfully our childhood fantasies fit onto the big screen. While “The Lego Movie” has already grossed 468 million dollars worldwide, “The Lego Batman Movie” was one of the big insider tips of 2017. In addition, “The Lego Movie 2” has already been announced for spring 2019. With “Playmobil – The Movie”, a completely new toy universe is now being filmed.
Pirates, Vikings, Romans, cowboys, fairies – there is nothing that does not exist in the big Playmobil world. And as the trailer already shows, the different themes will also be accommodated in the colourful animated film for the whole family. Including a few allusions for the adult audience. The adventure is directed by Lino DiSalvo, who worked for 17 years at Disney in the animation department on projects such as “The Ice Queen” before making his directorial debut with “Playmobil – The Movie”.
The great cast of “Playmobil – The Movie” also arouses curiosity. We can experience shooting star Anya Taylor-Joy (“Glass”) in a double role as actress and dubbing artist. She is also joined by Gabriel Bateman (“Benji”). A sensation, however, is the casting of “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe (“Swiss Army Man”) as a voice actor – his debut as a voice actor in an animated film.
The German dubbing list is nothing to sneeze at either: In the German cinema version we get to hear actors Matthias Schweighöfer and Wilson Gonzales Ochsenkencht, as well as musicians Michael Patrick Kelly and Beatrice Egli, comedian Ralf Schmitz and Christian Ulmen, and sports legends Regina Halmich and Felix Neureuther.
