The Magic Flute: Fantasy film in which a musically gifted boarding school student discovers the magical world of Mozart’s Magic Flute.
Plot and background
Tim Walker (Jack Wolfe) can hardly believe his luck when he is able to start his singing studies at the Austrian Mozart boarding school. At first, the 17-year-old has to hold his own against the strong competition among his fellow students.
One night, however, he discovers a secret portal in the walls that transports him directly into the magical world of Mozart’s Magic Flute. In it, Tim now embodies Prince Tamino, who must free Princess Pamina (Asha Banks) from the clutches of Prince Sarastro (Morris Robinson). Tamino is accompanied by bird catcher Papageno (Iwan Rheon). The three ladies (Jeanne Goursand, Jasmin Shakeri and Larissa Sirah Herden) give the lad the titular Magic Flute to help him along.
“The Magic Flute” – background, cast, cinema release
This opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which lasts just under three hours, is one of the most famous and most frequently staged operas in the entire world. A star-studded cast has been hired for the fantasy film, which closely follows the piece while weaving its own story around it.
The leading role is played by shooting star Jack Wolfe (“The Witcher”), Iwan Rheon (“Game of Thrones”) embodies bird catcher Papageno, the beautiful Pamina is portrayed by Asha Banks and tenor Morris Robinson becomes Prince Sarastro. Also in the cast: F. Murray Abraham, who has already starred in Milos Forman’s rock opera “Amadeus”.
The filming took place at the Bavaria Studios near Munich, in Salzburg, London and on the Canary Islands. Florian Sigl is responsible for the direction, the soundtrack will be released by the Deutsche Grammophon classical music label.
“The Magic Flute – Das Vermächtnis der Zauberflöte” will be released in German cinemas on 17 November 2022 in the run-up to Christmas.
