Plot and background
The Clades are an explorer family who have had great adventures. In their new and most important mission yet, they discover an unexplored, harsh land inhabited by creatures both treacherous and fantastic. However, as the family is not on the same page in all matters, their most important mission soon threatens to topple. The family includes the farmer Searcher Clade (Jake Gyllenhaal), whose son Ethan (Jaboukie Young-White) wants to discover the world far away from the farm and experiences his first love at the same time.

With the now 61st animated film from Disney, a family adventure film is presented that draws on the popular pulp magazines from the first half of the 20th century. Director Don Hall (“Baymax”, “Raya and the Last Dragon”) grew up with the stories on cheap pulp paper.
Even the first concept picture offers a glimpse into the “Strange World”. With stars like Jake Gyllenhaal, Dennis Quaid, Lucy Liu, Gabrielle Union, the new Disney animated film is cast with excellent voices, at least in the English original. The main role of the young teenager Ethan Clade was already cast in the summer of 2021 with Jaboukie Young-White (“Come on, Come on”). It is currently not clear who will be heard in the German version.
Unlike many of its predecessors, “Strange World” is not a musical film. Instead, an original story is told. The screenplay was written by Qui Nguyen, who was already responsible for “Raya and the Last Dragon”.
The theatrical release of “Strange World” is in the pre-Christmas period on 24 November 2022. In the past, Disney animated films were often given an FSK 0 rating.
