Marco effekten: Crime thriller based on a book by Jussi Adler-Olsen, in which a years-old case is reopened
Plot and background
Teenager Marco (Luboš Oláh) unwillingly becomes a key figure in a corruption case. When he is arrested on a train in Denmark, he carries a page from the passport of William Stark – the man has been considered missing for several years. Could the boy be carrying a clue to his whereabouts? Together with his partner Assad (Zaki Youssef), the tough inspector Carl Mørck (Ulrich Thomsen) has to find out what it is all about.
Soon the clues thicken that Stark’s disappearance is only part of a larger corruption and conspiracy that even leads to the country’s highest officials.

“Expectation – The Marco Effect” – background, cast, cinema release
It is already the fifth appearance of the rude as well as sharp-witted detective Carl Mørck, once created by crime writer Jussi Adler-Olsen in 2007. The fifth novel, “Erwartung” (Expectation), appeared in German stores in 2013, and ten books are currently planned in the successful crime series. In films such as “Erbarmen”, “Schändung”, “Erlösung” and “Verachtung”, the Scandinavian detective has so far been embodied by Nikolaj Lie Kaas; under the direction of Martin Zandvliet (“Unter dem Sand”), a dark new direction of the series is taking place with Ulrich Thomsen (“Gut gegen Nordwind”) in the leading role. The aim was to stage a full-blooded investigator who does what he does best – but little else. Thomsen is also joined by Zaki Youssef (“Sons of Denmark”), Sofie Torp (“Wildland”) and up-and-coming actor Luboš Oláh.
Three years after the last film adaptation about the events in Homicide Q, the next film adaptation, “Erwartung – Der Marco-Effekt”, will be released in cinemas on 2 June 2022. The FSK has approved the thriller for the age of 16 and up.
