Bo and the Christmas Star

by Han

The Star: Wonderfully animated Christmas story about a donkey and his animal friends who follow the Star of Bethlehem – all the way to the manger of the Christ Child.

Plot and background

The little donkey Bo is no longer in the mood for strenuous work. Every day he toils away in the mill. Then one day Bo decides to run away and go in search of a great adventure. Soon he meets some very unconventional companions. Together with Ruth the sheep and Dave the brave dove, Bo joins a strange caravan: The camels of the Magi follow a particularly bright star. This leads them straight to Bethlehem, where the baby Jesus will be born on Christmas Eve.

“Bo and the Christmas Star” – Backgrounds

The Christmas story has often been told in the cinema, but never before through the eyes of a curious donkey who stumbles more by chance into the greatest adventure of his life. The story is directed by the young Walden Media Studios, which collaborated with Sony for the animated film “Bo and the Christmas Star”. The director is Timothy Reckart, who is also still rather unknown and who, as an animation specialist, was behind wonderful short films such as the Oscar-nominated animated puppet film “Head Over Heels”.

Originally, the film was to be released under the title “The Lamb” and tell the story not from the perspective of Bo the donkey, but from that of a sheep. In the original version, the Christmas story now appears under the new title “The Star”, in reference to the Star of Bethlehem that guides Bo on his adventure.
