Vengeance: sophisticated thriller about a big-city podcaster trying to solve a murder in Texas.
Plot and background
New York podcaster Ben Manalowitz (B.J. Novak) senses his chance to make it big with a true-crime podcast when he flies to the funeral of Abby, a woman with whom he had a brief affair. On the scene in West Texas, Abby’s brother Ty (Boyd Holbrook) opens up to him that the two of them will work together to avenge her murder, even though all the evidence suggests that the young woman died of an overdose. But Ty refuses to accept the apparent facts as such. While Ben barely knew Abby and remembers little of the deceased, her Texan family thinks he is her grieving partner and welcomes him with open arms. But what started as a harmless podcast idea for Ben becomes increasingly serious the deeper he investigates. Enigmatic characters like music producer Quentin Sellers (Ashton Kutcher) emerge and Ben must face culture shock and his prejudices between rodeos and conspiracy theories.
