“Close” – background, cast, cinema release

Director Lukas Dhont tenderly tackles the pain and identity issues adolescents face on the cusp of adulthood. The moving drama about an intense friendship is the second feature film by the Belgian filmmaker after the award-winning drama “Girl”. The two main roles, Léo and Rémi, are brought to life by the talented young actors Eden Dambrine and Gustav de Waele. The two boys made their screen debut with “Close”. They play alongside the renowned actresses Émilie Dequenne (“Love Affair(s)”) and Léa Drucker (“The Blue Room”), who stood in front of the camera as the mothers of the two friends.

The sensitive coming-of-age drama was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival. After his first feature film “Girl”, Lukas Dhont is entering the Oscar race for Belgium once again in the category “Best International Film” with “Close”. Close” will be released in cinemas here on 26 January 2023.
