Missing: Mystery thriller starring Storm Reid as she tries to track down her mother, who has been missing since a holiday with her new boyfriend in Colombia.
Plot and background
For 18-year-old June (Storm Reid), it sounds like a welcome change when her otherwise strict mother (Nia Long) travels to Colombia with her new boyfriend and leaves the house unsupervised. June, who is about to transfer to college, takes advantage of her newfound freedom and throws a big house party. But the party mood quickly turns to worry when June’s mother suddenly disappears from the scene and her daughter can neither reach her nor meet her at the airport. The young girl receives little support from the authorities she contacts after her mother’s disappearance, so June decides to do her own investigation. While stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, a child of social media, she uses her knowledge of the latest technology and turns to Facetime, Taskrabbit and other digital tools to track down her mother. But the deeper June investigates, the more she is hampered by international bureaucracy and encounters more and more questions and mysteries in her research. Little by little, the 18-year-old uncovers the secrets of her mother, a woman she actually thought she knew.
The official trailer for “Missing” promises a highly suspenseful and nerve-wracking mystery thriller:
“Missing” – background, cast, theatrical release
Following the huge success of 2018’s mystery thriller “Searching,” which won the Audience Award at Sundance, Will Merrick and Nick Johns, who were in the editing room for the first film, wrote and directed the next film in the franchise. Like Searching, Missing is a mystery thriller set entirely online, but with a new story that merely builds on the themes and narrative motifs of Searching. The cast is also a completely new one, but no less high-profile for that. The main roles are played by Storm Reid (“Euphoria”), Joaquim de Almeida (“The Cartel”), Ken Leung (“Rush Hour”) and Amy Landecker as well as Daniel Henney (“The Wheel of Time”) and Nia Long (“The Best Man – Wedding with Obstacles”).
“Missing” opens in cinemas here on 23 February 2023.
