If you want to watch the great animated film “Spider-Man: A New Universe” or the cult comedy “Arrested Development”, you have to be quick now. Both titles are only available for a few more days on the streaming service with the red N.
We know the game: the big streaming providers regularly change their programmes. New content arrives and many a series and film production is taken out of the portfolio. This time, the departures at Netflix hurt a little, because it’s not just the best Spider-Man film ever that’s being affected, but also an absolute comedy cult series whose last seasons were actually produced by Netflix.
“SPIDER-MAN: A NEW UNIVERSE” – UNTIL MARCH 10, 2023
You only have a few days left to stream the best Spider-Man movie ever: On the review site Rotten Tomatoes, the extraordinary animated film “Spider-Man: A New Universe” comes to a score of 97% and is thus even ahead of the box-office runaway hit “Spider-Man: No Way Home” or Sam Raimi’s comic blockbuster classic “Spider-Man 2” from 2004.
And rightly so, because we also gave the turbulent and at the same time deeply emotional coming-of-age animated adventure an outstanding 4.5 out of 5 stars in our FILMSTARTS review back then and come to the following verdict:
“It’s amazing how coherent the visual mishmash of diverse styles and ideas is at all times, how state-of-the-art animation techniques and classic cartoons are even combined here with scenes that could have sprung from a wacky drug fantasy by Gaspar Noé. […] The greatest feat, however, is that in the midst of all this visual bombast, the film never forgets to tell a rousing story. […] How unagitatedly the makers tell the story of Miles trying to find his place in this world in the midst of an action fireworks display peppered with gags is perhaps even the greatest masterstroke of this outstanding Marvel adventure. “
“ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT” – UNTIL MARCH 14, 2023
And this loss also really hurts, because with “Arrested Development” the streaming giant with the red N loses one of the best series of all time. On IMDb, the series is currently ranked 88th out of the 100 best series (as of March 2023) with a rating of 8.7 (as of March 2023). Especially the first three seasons about the absurd experiences and existential crises of the Bluth family by series creator Mitchell Hurwitz are a true firework of absurd humour that has lost none of its originality to this day – and furthermore has a top-class cast with Hollywood stars like Micheal Cera, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett & many more.
Unfortunately, the two subsequent seasons produced by Netflix could not match the quality of earlier episodes, partly because they were sometimes told in a very confusing way. Nevertheless, the comedy series still enjoys great popularity today and has a dedicated fan base that remains loyal to the series to this day.
This makes “Arrested Development” one of the few cases in which Netflix loses its own original content. The last time this happened was with the Marvel series “Daredevil” or “Marvel’s The Punisher”, where Disney decided not to renew the licensing agreements and henceforth play out these series on the freshly launched mice house streaming service Disney+.
