The new week is just around the corner. So it’s time to look ahead again to the new film and series highlights that await us on Netflix in the next seven days. Fantasy fans can look forward to the sequel to “Fate: The Winx Saga”, for example.
In a week after major series releases, Netflix likes to take it easy, including now after the release of the highly anticipated fifth season of the acclaimed “Karate Kid” series “Cobra Kai”. Nevertheless, the streaming service also has a few potentially exciting titles to offer in the coming days. Here are the Netflix highlights for the week of 12 to 18 September 2022 – sorted, as always, by weekday.
MONDAY: “COLD FEET
The week begins leisurely with comedy fare from Germany. In “Kalte Füße”, debt-ridden small-time crook Denis (Emilio Sakraya) breaks into the remote villa of wealthy stroke patient Raimund (Heiner Lauterbach), where he is not only mistaken for a new caregiver, but is soon trapped with his “patient” and his patient’s granddaughter (Sonja Gerhardt) because of a snowstorm. Raimund, who is no longer capable of speaking, however, immediately sees through the newcomer and tries to defend himself against him with all means at his disposal.
Since “Kalte Füße” ultimately dares too little, the black comedy unfortunately ignites too rarely. The hilarious premise, the well-performed actors and at least a few nasty jabs at the audience at least make for some fun at times.
TUESDAY: THE SERIES FOR “CYBERPUNK 2077”
The action role-playing game “Cyberpunk 2077” caused quite a stir at the end of 2020, on the one hand because it was the new game from “The Witcher” developers CD Projekt Red (which also featured Hollywood darling Keanu Reeves in a leading role), and on the other hand because the console versions in particular caused a loud fan outcry due to massive technical problems upon release.
In the meantime, the dust has settled to a certain extent, so that the world of “Cyberpunk 2077” can now be expanded carefree – for example with an anime spin-off on Netflix, which CD Projekt Red developed together with Studio Trigger, which was already responsible for the two highly regarded episodes “The Twins” and “The Old Man” from the animated anthology series “Star Wars: Visions”.
“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”, however, has no direct links to the content of the game. Instead, we get to know a new ensemble of characters trying to make their way in Night City, a city obsessed with technology and futuristic body modifications.
WEDNESDAY: CRIME UPDATE
On Wednesday, crime fans in particular will get their money’s worth – both in the fictional sector with the Norwegian series “Disappeared in Lørenskog” and in the true-crime sector with the docu-miniseries “The Crimes of Our Mother”. And in the drama “The Catholic School”, based on true events, about a massacre at such a school, you basically get a mixture of both.
Meanwhile, there’s some teen heartbreak with the Australian series “Heartbreak High”, while the film “Broad Peak” takes you to mountain peaks that are as icy as they are dangerous.
THURSDAY: BREATHER
Hardcore football fans can look forward to the docu-series “Imperator Fatih Terim” about the Turkish manager of the same name on Thursday, while young four-legged friends are treated to new episodes of the animated children’s series “Dogs in Space”. There are no really noteworthy new releases on this day, however.
FRIDAY: NEW EPISODES OF “FATE: THE WINX SAGA “
Just in time for the weekend, there is once again a big release flood on Netflix, with the long-awaited second season of “Fate: The Winx Saga” clearly standing out among the many titles, finally finding its way onto the streaming platform over a year and a half after season 1.
In season 2 of the dark adaptation of the former cult animated series “Winx Club”, the young fairy Bloom (Abigail Cowen) continues her education at the magical boarding school Alfea, where nothing is the same anymore after a violent upheaval. This time also with them: template fan favourite Flora (played by Paulina Chávez).
Dark young-adult fantasy entertainment is also available apart from this with the South African god series “The Brave Ones”. On the other hand, the new Netflix comedies “I Used To Be Famous” and “Do Revenge” are a bit more cheerful. The latter stars Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”), Camila Mendes (“Riverdale”), Cassady McClincy (“The Walking Dead”) and Sophie Turner (“Game Of Thrones”), four young stars from hit series.
Also new on Friday: the Spanish thriller series “Santo”, the anime adventure “Drifting Home” and the documentary “Scandal! The fall of Wirecard”.
