Will fantasy fans ever get a good The Dark Tower adaptation? Hope is growing. Creator Stephen King, at least, is sure: Amazon has found the right man.
Unfilmable – as technology advances, this seal is handed out to novel originals less and less often. One of the last great fantasy series that arguably deserves it is The Dark Tower by Stephen King. The first film adaptation by Nikolaj Arcel failed miserably. Six years later, a new venture is on the move. Creator Stephen King himself has given the project the green light.
Huge fantasy potential: what is The Dark Tower?
The Dark Tower is a fantasy novel series by Stephen King (It, Shining, Carrie) and possibly his most important work. Eight novels, as well as several short stories and comics, The Dark Tower World (briefly explained here) fulfilled every prerequisite to become a new franchise, captivating millions of people for years and decades.
Mike Flanagan adapts The Dark Tower as a series and Stephen King’s statement gives hope
It’s been known for some time that Amazon is planning a series adaptation of The Dark Tower – with Mike Flanagan as showrunner. On Twitter, a fan took heart and became the mouthpiece for all Dark Tower fans. They “enthusiastically” support Flanagan’s series and would like to see a series with five to eight seasons. Stephen King’s terse but significant response to this: “The author agrees. “
The writer happens to agree. https://t.co/lCYsLOWmy4

Who is Mike Flanagan? Mike Flanagan is considered one of the most influential horror directors of today. He already filmed the Shining sequel Doctor Sleep’s Awakening based on Stephen King. Even more decisive for the enthusiasm of fans, however, is Flanagan’s work in the series field: for Netflix he delivered the epic horror series Haunted Hill House, Haunted Bly Manor and Midnight Mass – all of them acclaimed by fans and critics. So he might actually be the right man to approach The Dark Tower.
