Perhaps the best episode of sci-fi series Black Mirror season 6, Joan Is Awful, takes aim at Netflix. Fans of the subversive series are absolutely thrilled.
Black Mirror is finally back and leaving no stone unturned. Season 6 recently became available on Netflix and is already making a splash with the first episode Joan Is Awful. A streaming service heavily based on Netflix called Streamberry turns the life of protagonist Joan (Annie Murphy) upside down. And the fans are going crazy.
After Black Mirror episode Joan Is Awful, fans need to re-read Netflix’s terms and conditions
Joan finds out in the episode that Streamberry has filmed her life with the show Joan Is Awful, complete to the last second and with all the ugly details. And it’s all because she overlooked some important details in the streaming service’s terms and conditions (T&Cs). The meta-criticism of Netflix is finding open ears on Twitter.

You might think that the meta-message of the episode is against any kind of immoral streaming business. There’s nothing wrong with that. But the Streamberry design has clear parallels to Black Mirror’s home Netflix. The series thus bites the hand that feeds it in an extremely entertaining way.
