“Bird Box” was one of the biggest hits for Netflix. So a follow-up film was only logical. With “Bird Box: Barcelona” – albeit in a different way than expected. But is there more to come? “Bird Box 3” is probably the topic.
It is not yet confirmed that Netflix will also make “Bird Box 3”. For that, they will certainly wait and see how the second film “Bird Box Barcelona” is received by the audience and whether the franchise will still be successful without Sandra Bullock as the star – after all, her presence probably played a big role in the success of “Bird Box” in 2018. But the plans for “Bird Box 3” are possibly already in the drawer – and there is a lot to suggest that they want to continue to follow the approach of the first franchise expansion.
The producer behind the series, Chris Morgan, who is best known as the author of many parts of the “Fast & Furious” series, revealed to Entertainment Weekly in June, together with his colleague Dylan Clark, that he was interested in how the apocalyptic scenario of an invasion by mysterious creatures was dealt with all over the world. How different is the reaction in places with different geography, cultures and politics?
“BIRD BOX 3” – ANOTHER SPIN-OFF INSTEAD OF A SEQUEL?
The two producers are thus hinting that a third film could also take us to a different location with completely new characters. Thus, after the USA and Europe, those responsible could perhaps show us how the horror scenario is dealt with in an African or an Asian country. Morgan and Clark explicitly mention both continents in their interview with Entertainment Weekly.
But as I said, nothing has been confirmed yet. If “Bird Box Barcelona” does not find favour with the Netflix audience, another spin-off will quickly become very unlikely. However, it is uncertain whether Sandra Bullock will return at some point.
