Expectedly but with weak numbers, “Heart Of Stone” starring DC’s fighting Amazon Gal Gadot has taken the top spot in the Netflix top ten. In contrast, sci-fi thriller “Paradise” continues to hold on to the top spot among non-English language titles.
On August 11, 2023, “Heart Of Stone” was released on Netflix. The action thriller with “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot could only convince to a limited extent so far – 1.5 stars in the FILMSTARTS review as well as a critics* rating of 30 percent on Rotten Tomatoes speak a clear language – and the audience is also not really convinced.
Although the agent thriller easily climbed to the top of the global Netflix charts, the 33.1 million views that “Heart Of Stone” recorded at the start can be classified as a disappointment. In the past, the streaming giant’s own action productions in particular were able to call up significantly higher figures after the launch weekend. Most recently, “Tyler Rake: Extraction 2” with 42.8 million views or “The Mother” with Jennifer Lopez.
Despite tepid numbers for the Gal-Gadots vehicle, the previous leader has to admit defeat: “Hidden Strike” takes second place with 7.7 million views. Still, interest in the actioner starring Jackie Chan and John Cena is still there in its third week after Netflix launch – not a bad result for a movie that’s been in the Hollywood poison cabinet for five years.
“PARADISE” CONTINUES AT 1
Among non-English language titles, the previous week’s top performer continues to dominate the charts. The German sci-fi feature “Paradise” has made itself comfortable on the throne of the Netflix charts with 7.6 million views and is not even thinking of vacating its place. A pleasing development – not only for director Boris Kunz and his crew, but also for local genre cinema. Sci-fi productions are unfortunately rather a rarity in this country. It is therefore regrettable that “Paradise” did not receive a wider release in German cinemas.
7.6 million view units could generate “Paradise” once again and is thus quite a bit ahead of the anime adaptation “Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead”, in which the 24-year-old Akira Tendou (Eiji Akaso) finds out that a zombie invasion has not only bad sides.
