Competencia oficial: Spanish spoof starring Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas recounting the nerve-wracking shoot of a new arthouse film.
Film plot and background
Spanish spoof starring Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas reporting on the nerve-wracking shoot of a new arthouse film.
Her name is Lola Cuevas (Penélope Cruz) and her films have brought her the most important prizes at the world’s major film festivals, most notably the Palme d’Or in Cannes. The new stars of her next film are the international star Felix Rivero (Antonio Banderas) and the edgy theatre actor Ivan Torres (Oscar Martínez), whose natures could not be more different.
At the beginning, there is the billionaire entrepreneur Humberto Suárez (José Luis Gómez), who wants to leave his lasting monument to the world. Instead of having a bridge built in his name, he finances the film adaptation of a celebrated novel. He finds his director in Cuevas and gives her a free hand to work. She has to choose the stars, only they have to be famous.
When the trio of Cuevas, Rivero and Torres meet for nine days of rehearsals, tempers quickly boil over. Cuevas demands that her stars exploit themselves, but the two squabblers Felix and Ivan have no good word for each other. A tightrope act begins, at the end of which their finished film is to be shown in official competition at an important film festival and bring home the most important prizes.
