As we do every month, we’re once again presenting you with all the previously known Netflix new releases for October 2022 in our preview. The tenth month of the year is always a special time for horror fans. After all, Halloween is coming up and those who don’t want to watch the same films and series over and over again to get into the scary mood are dependent on supplies. Fortunately, Netflix delivers in this regard several times over. The complete list of October new releases can be found below, in the following paragraphs you will find more detailed information on the particularly interesting titles.
THE NETFLIX HORROR PROGRAMME FOR HALLOWEEN
Kicking things off is “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” on October 5. A new Stephen King adaptation starring “ES” star Jaeden Martell.
On 7 October, it continues with “Old People”, a horror thriller set in a retirement home.
Also on 7 October, “Goosebumps at Midnight” continues, the new series from “Haunted Hill House” creator Mike Flanagan.
Finally, “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities” will be released on 25 October. In the anthology series, the “Hellboy” maker introduces us to eight independent horror stories.
In addition, some scary archive titles like “Annabelle 3” and “Paranormal Activity: The Marked” as well as the remakes “A Nightmare On Elm Street” and “Friday the 13th” start right on 1 October. But enough horror for now. Because Netflix is also launching some really big titles outside the scary genre in October.
STARBACKED FANTASY, A LEGENDARY WAR epic & BARBARIAN BATTLES
On 19 October, “The School For Good And Evil” will be launched, a series that should especially pick up fans of fairytale stories, “Harry Potter” and “Fate: The Winx Saga”. The two best friends Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie) are admitted to a magical boarding school whose purpose is to train heroines and villains whose adventures will then provide the basis for fairy tales.
“The School For Good And Evil” was directed by “Bride Alarm” and “Ghostbusters” director Paul Feig. It also stars big names like Charlize Theron (“Mad Max: Fury Road”), Laurence Fishburne (“The Matrix”) and Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All At Once”) in supporting roles.
On 28 October, the German Oscar candidate “Im Westen Nichts Neues” will be released. This is based on the 1928 literary classic of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque, which was already filmed in masterly style by Lewis Milestone in 1930. But although the novel is of German origin, the Netflix version of “Nothing New in the West” is the very first German adaptation of it. For too long, the comparison with the Hollywood masterpiece was probably shied away from, but 92 (!) years later, director Edward Berger has now dared to make a new adaptation.
In addition, season 2 of the German hit series “Barbaren” will also start on Netflix in October. So there’s plenty of supply outside of horror as well. A complete list of all titles announced by the streaming service (with the exception of reality shows and comedy specials) now follows.
