Society of the Snow Teaser Trailer Previews Netflix’s Newest Survival

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the Society of the Snow, the upcoming survival thriller drama based on the real-life Uruguayan 1972 Andes plane crash. The film will have its world premiere at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival.

The video highlights the grueling aftermath of the tragic plane crash. The flight carried 45 people which included members of an Old Christians Club rugby union team, who were also accompanied by their families and friends. The film is expected to make its Netflix debut later this year.

What to Expect in the Society of the Snow?

“In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which had been chartered to fly a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes,” reads the synopsis. “Only 29 of its 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they have to resort to extreme measures to stay alive.”

Society of the Snow is directed by J.A. Bayona from a screenplay he co-wrote with Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques, Nicolás Casariego. It is based on the memoir by Pablo Vierci, who was one of the survivors that were rescued. The film stars Enzo Vogrincic, Agustín Pardella, Matías Recalt, Esteban Bigliardi, Diego Vegezzi, Fernando Contigiani García, Esteban Kukuriczka, Rafael Federman, Francisco Romero, Valentino Alonso, Tomás Wolf, Agustín Della Corte, Felipe Otaño, Andy Pruss, Blas Polidori, Felipe Ramusio, and Simón Hempe.

The film is produced by Bayona, Belén Atienza, and Sandra Hermida, with Vierci serving as an associate producer. The creative consists of production designer Alain Bainée, cinematographer Pedro Luque Briozzo SCU, editors Jaume Martí and Andrés Gil, and composer Michael Giacchino.
