It’s probably one of the biggest and most anticipated series reboots of the year: starting today, August 31, 2023, you can finally see for yourself how good the Netflix live-action adaptation of “One Piece” has become.

It actually seems like an impossible undertaking, but Netflix is daring: the legendary manga and the almost equally good anime series “One Piece” are to be turned into a live-action series. The streaming giant can draw on a wealth of resources, as the anime adaptation already comprises over 1,000 episodes. How can such a comprehensive story be adequately realized?

Even the first trailers for the Netflix version of “One Piece” did not bring peace to the angry and expectant fan camp. While on the one hand the anticipation could hardly be contained – after all, even mangaka and “One Piece” creator Eiichirō Oda himself had given the series his blessing – on the other hand the look of the implementation was criticized. Both the CGI effects and the costumes were severely criticized on X (formerly Twitter). Perhaps the disappointment over the unsuccessful “Cowboy Bebop” adaptation was still in the bones of some fans.

Starting today, August 31, 2023, anime heads can see for themselves how successful the adaptation of the cult manga has become. All eight episodes of the first “One Piece” season can now be accessed on Netflix.

With these words, the great age of pirates began, for driven by these mysterious words, many young men and women set out to lift the legendary treasure known as the “One Piece.” Among them was the daredevil and simpleton Monkey D. Ruffy (Inaki Godoy). But the budding pirate captain has a problem: he currently has neither ship nor crew, and since he’s been snacking on a gum-gum fruit, he can stretch his body to any extent, but unfortunately he can’t swim anymore.

Nevertheless, Ruffy does not let himself be dissuaded from his plan to become the greatest pirate captain of all time. Little by little, he begins to hire a capable crew. Among them, the sword-wielding Zorro (Mackenyu), the navigator and cartographer Nami (Emily Rudd), boat gunner Lysop (Jacob Gibson) and the always lovelorn but very battle-talented cook Sanji (Taz Skylar).

But does the group have enough talent and iron will to face the dangers they will face? In particular, the clown pirate Buggy (Jeff Ward) has it in for Captain Ruffy and his squad…
