The animated series “Doug” ran in the 1990s and 2000s in this country on SuperRTL up and down. Now the cult series from your childhood is to continue on Disney+ and inspire a new generation.

Every child of the 90s and early 2000s will remember well that the animated series “Doug” was part of the fixed afternoon program on SuperRTL. However, no new episodes have been produced since 1999, and the story of the shy teenager Doug Funnie came to an end for the time being after seven seasons and one feature film. Almost 25 years later, however, there is to be a reunion with characters like Patti Mayonnaise, Skeeter and Roger – in the form of a sequel series on Disney+.

As “Doug” creator Jim Jinkins revealed in a conversation with YouTuber Tedd Buick, the sequel is currently in the early development phase at Disney. Instead of directly following the completed storyline of the original series, the animated series will introduce a new generation – namely the children of Doug Funnie and his great love Patti. Stylistically, the series is said to be based on the ’90s original.

THIS IS WHAT “DOUG “

IS ABOUT.

“Doug” was produced by the American production company Jumbo Pictures starting in 1991, while the first four seasons aired there on Nickelodeon. From season 5, Walt Disney Television Animation took over production and brought the series to U.S. living rooms via the ABC channel. In this country, the popular animated series ran predominantly on SuperRTL.

The series was nominated for several awards at the time, including the Emmys and the Parent’s Choice Awards, and was well received by both children and critics. In particular, it was praised for the sensitive way it dealt with various themes of adolescence in “Doug,” especially friendship, first love, family, school stress, but also bullying. It centers on teenager Doug Funnie with his dog Porkchop, his best friend Skeeter, his great love Patti and school bully Roger.

So far, it is unclear when the “Doug” sequel will be seen on Disney+.
