“Death on the Nile” – plot
Linnet Ridgeway (Gal Gadot) is not only incredibly beautiful, but also incredibly rich. The only thing missing from her perfect happiness is the perfect man. It seems she has found him in Simon Doyle (Armie Hammer), the fiancé of her best friend Jacqueline (Emma Mackey). Since Linnet gets everything she wants, the situation is no problem either. And so Linnet and Simon marry, spending their honeymoon on a Nile steamer. There they are already awaited by a vengeful Jacqueline and other curious guests.
When a murder is committed during their journey, it is up to master detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) to identify the murderer among all the travellers. This task turns out to be quite difficult, for not everything on the steamer is as it seems.
“Death on the Nile” – background, cast
For his next Poirot adventure Kenneth Branagh once again put on two hats: that of the leading actor and that of the director. The screenplay was written by Michael Green, who had already put pen to paper on an Agatha Christie masterpiece with Murder on the Orient Express. In addition to his collaboration with Branagh, the author has other blockbusters to his credit, “Logan” and “Blade Runner 2049”, to name but two. The thriller was produced by Hollywood legend Ridley Scott and Simon Kinberg, among others.
A number of Hollywood stars have also joined forces in front of the camera. “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot plays Linnet Ridgeway (later Doyle), her husband Simon is portrayed by “Call Me by Your Name” actor Armie Hammer. In other roles, viewers can expect Letitia Wright, Emma Mackey (“Sex Education”) and Rose Leslie (“Game of Thrones”) as well as Hollywood great Annette Bening. A surprising cast is the English comedy duo Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders.
Agatha Christie published the crime classic “Death on the Nile” in 1937. Before that, the film had only been adapted for film and television twice. In 1978, the well-known cinema adaptation with Peter Ustinov was released, and in 2004 the television series “Agatha Christie’s Poirot” adapted the classic.
