New Tales of Pumuckl: sequel to the successful children’s film classic about the cheeky red-haired leprechaun Pumuckl.
Plot and background
Master Eder’s nephew Florian (Florian Brückner) enters his uncle’s long-abandoned workshop after the workbench and circular saw have been collecting dust for over 30 years. Together with his sister Bärbel, the young man has inherited their uncle’s carpentry workshop, which is now to be sold. But strange things are happening in the workshop and it seems to be haunted. Soon the real culprit is revealed when the little goblin Pumuckl sticks to the glue and suddenly becomes visible to Florian Eder. Florian has never laid eyes on such a little fellow in his life, but an ancient goblin law states that a goblin that becomes visible to a human must stay with that human forever. After meeting Pumuckl, Eder realizes that he can’t possibly sell the little prankster’s home and decides to quit his job, restore the workshop and move into the apartment above. Together with the red-haired, cheeky imp, many new adventures await him here.
The first official trailer promises a Pumuckl comeback full of fun, heartiness and mischief:
“New Tales of Pumuckl” – background, cast, theatrical release
In “New Tales of Pumuckl,” director Marcus H. Rosenmüller (“Wer früher stirbt, ist länger tot”) breathes new life into the iconic figure of the imp with the red hair in a modernized version. The children’s and family film is based on the radio play series “Meister Eder und sein Pumuckl” by Ellis Kaut, which was published starting in 1962 and later also appeared as a TV series and a feature film of the same name.
Florian Brückner (“Der Boandlkramer und die ewige Liebe”) takes on the role of Master Eder’s nephew. Other roles are played by Milan Peschel, Frederic Linkemann, Ilse Neubauer, Katharina Thalbach and Teresa Rizos.
The play by cabaret artist Maximilian Schafroth was used as a model for the animation of the imp. However, in order to recreate Pumuckl’s unmistakable voice, Schafroth’s voice was converted to that of the original Pumuckl voice actor Hans Clarin using AI for the first time ever on this scale. In theaters, the film will be shown in this version. After its theatrical release on October 26, 2023, “Neue Geschichten vom Pumuckl” will be shown in 13 new episodes on RTL+, RTL and TOGGO. RTL+ will then exclusively make both voice versions available for streaming in parallel.
