Indie drama starring Joaquin Phoenix as a radio journalist who has to watch out for his nephew out of the blue.
As a radio journalist, Johnny (Joaquin Phoenix) travels around the country, mostly interviewing children in big cities and asking what they hope for their future. But when he talks to his sister Viv (Gaby Hoffmann) on the phone, she asks him to come to Los Angeles. She wants Johnny to look after his nephew Jesse (Woody Norman) while she has to travel to Oakland so she can look after Jesse’s estranged father.
For Johnny, there is no question that he is helping his sister, but in his life so far he has only had to take care of himself and has no experience in parenting. Nine-year-old Jesse is not only extremely smart for his age, but also demands a lot from his uncle after only a few days. While Johnny’s work is pushing for him to tour the big cities again, he promptly takes Jesse with him on the road. Uncle and nephew have personal conversations in which they talk about their fears and dreams, but also about what is currently on their minds.
“Come on, Come on” – cast, background, cinema release
Following his Oscar win for “Joker” (2019), character actor Joaquin Phoenix fills the next leading role in the quiet drama “Come On, Come On”, which deals with being a parent and all its facets. He is joined by up-and-coming actor Woody Norman (“Poldark”). The rest of the cast includes Gaby Hoffmann, Scoot McNairy and Deborah Strang.
In the director’s chair is Mike Mills, who has already scored with films such as “Beginners” and “Century Women” with interpersonal and family dramas. “Come On, Come On” has been kept in black and white.
On 24 March 2022, the drama “Come On, Come On” will be released in German cinemas and has been given an FSK rating from 6 years upwards.
