Mark Ruffalo is a big name in Hollywood. In blockbuster cinema, he rages on the big screen as the Hulk and is a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also recently received very good reviews for the quirky fantasy film Poor Things, in which he can be seen with Emma Stone.
In a new interview, Ruffalo reveals that his career hasn’t always been so good. Especially in the 2000s, he had problems getting bigger roles. As he reveals to High Snobiety, he almost didn’t get one of the best films of his career: Zodiac – The Trail of the Killer.
Marvel star Mark Ruffalo suffered a harsh humiliation during his Zodiac casting
With Zodiac – The Trail of the Killer, director David Fincher (Seven) has created a masterpiece of the serial killer film that lives above all from its outstanding cast. Alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr., Ruffalo is an important part of it. However, the studio classified the actor as expendable at the time.
I’ll never forget how they negotiated my deal for [Zodiac]. The studio rep literally told my manager, ‘We don’t give a shit about Mark Ruffalo. We don’t even want Mark Ruffalo in this movie. So you take what we offer you or forget it.’
Here you can watch the trailer for Zodiac:
By now, Ruffalo should have no problem landing a role. In recent years, he has been able to prove his talent on a regular basis. Particularly impressive were the revelatory films Spotlight and Poisoned Truth as well as the mini-series I Know This Much Is True, in which he plays a double role.
