The Witcher is one of the biggest fantasy series on Netflix. However, the author of the original had little influence on the film adaptation of the story, as he recently revealed
When a popular work is made into a movie, studios usually do everything they can to make fans of the material happy. The easiest way is to get the creator of the original on board. This ensures from the outset that the film adaptation does not deviate too much from the source material. Enter: The Witcher.
In the past, the successful fantasy series from Netflix has often been criticized by fans for not being a faithful adaptation of the Witcher saga penned by Andrzej Sapkowski. Based on a statement by the Polish author, there is a specific reason for this
The ideas of The Witcher creator Andrzej Sapkowski were not well received by Netflix
A few days ago, Sapkowski was a guest at Comic-Con in Vienna, where he spoke about the adventures of Geralt of Riva, as the Hollywood Reporter notes. When it came to the question of whether he had given Netflix feedback on The Witcher, he said:
Maybe I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me. That’s normal.
Imitating a Netflix producer, he adds:
‘Who’s that? It’s a writer, so it’s a nobody.’
Obviously, Sapkowski didn’t have high hopes for The Witcher from the outset because, as the inventor of the continent, he doesn’t have much say in its realization. Disney+, meanwhile, has taken a different approach. For the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan, the author of the original, was brought on board to ensure that the story was properly realized this time after the disappointing films.

Instead, Liam Hemsworth will play the Witcher from now on, after being the second choice for Geralt of Riva in the original audition
