The mission of Ladybug (Brad Pitt) is not complicated: He is to secure a suitcase on the Shinkansen, the Japanese express train nicknamed the Bullet Train, and get off at the next station. The train, which thunders at more than 300 km/h from Tokyo to Morioka, has other contract killers among its passengers. Lemon (Brian Tyree Henry) and Tangerine (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) are a deadly duo who are also supposed to secure the suitcase, the “Prince” (Joey King) has a reputation to defend and another contract killer named Kimura (Andrew Koji) wants revenge.
After two bodies are discovered on the train, the hit men soon realise that they are on the train for the same reasons, but with different goals. The more the train stops, the more killers get on board and the chaos increases. Only one will reach the end of the line alive.
“Bullet Train” – background, cast, theatrical release
Based on the novel of the same name by Japanese author Kōtarō Isaka, director David Leitch (“Deadpool 2”) sets about adapting the popular thriller.
Bullet Train” boasts a cast that is second to none: Brad Pitt (“Inglourious Basterds”), Joey King (“The Kissing Booth”), Andrew Koji (“Snake Eyes”), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”) and Brian Tyree Henry (“Godzilla vs Kong”) embody the five contract killers.
The cast is completed by Zazie Beetz (“Deadpool 2”), Masi Oka (“Heroes”), Hiroyuku Sanada (“The Last Samurai”), Michael Shannon (“Take Shelter”) and Logan Lerman (“Percy Jackson”). Sandra Bullock made a small guest appearance for “Bullet Train” as a favour to Brad Pitt. In return, he plays a small role in her new action film “The Lost City”.
“Bullet Train” is not only the international title of the novel, but also the nickname of the high-speed express trains from Japan that travel at more than 300 km/h to their destination and from A to B with meticulous precision.
On 4 August 2022, the action film “Bullet Train” will be released in German cinemas.
