M3GAN: Horror film about a doll with a murderous protective instinct
Plot and background
When Katie (Violet McGraw) tragically loses both of her parents in a car accident, her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams) unexpectedly takes over guardianship of the young girl. To cheer up her orphaned niece, Gemma introduces Katie to her latest project. The young woman works as a robotics expert at a toy company, where she single-handedly programmed the prototype of the high-tech doll M3GAN. But M3GAN is by no means an ordinary toy. It was designed to act as a child’s best friend and like-minded ally against parents. Katie quickly takes a liking to M3GAN, and a friendship even seems to develop between the girl and the doll. Without further ado, Gemma decides to take the talking robot doll home with her. But this decision turns out to have serious consequences, because M3GAN doesn’t like to be told what to do and develops such a protective instinct that she will even kill for Katie.

Gerard Johnstone (“Housebound”) directs M3GAN. The screenplay by Akela Cooper (“Malignant”), is based on a story by the master of horror, James Wan, who is known for the “Saw”, “Conjouring” and “Insidious” franchises, among others. Filmmaker Wan, who seems to have a soft spot for scary dolls, creates M3GAN, a terrifying android with killer tendencies in the body of a blonde girl doll. Horror specialists Jason Blum (“Halloween”) and James Wan produced “M3GAN”.
US actress Allison Williams (“Girls”) can be seen in the role of programmer Gemma, who designed the murderous doll out of pure benevolence and has to watch in horror as the prototype gets out of control. The young actress Violet McGraw (“Separation”) stood in front of the camera as orphan Katie and protégé of doll M3GAN.
