Film plot and background
Tom Holland’s third solo appearance as friendly neighbourhood spider
Tom Holland dons the suit of “Spider-Man” for his third solo adventure and opens the gates of the multiverse with the help of Doctor Strange.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” – plot
For Spider-Man (Tom Holland), a horror scenario occurred. J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) has revealed his true identity: Peter Parker is Spider-Man and is said to have killed the heroically acclaimed Mysterio. While his close friends around MJ (Zendaya), Ned (Jacob Batalon) and his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) continue to stand by him, he becomes increasingly conflicted in carrying out his duties as a superhero. While protecting his loved ones is usually his top priority, they are exposed to new dangers by the revelation of his identity. With the help of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), he hopes that the revelation of his true identity can be undone.
However, the powerful spell fails, opening rifts between worlds and pitting the most powerful enemies Spider-Man has fought in the different worlds against Peter. Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) are all out to get Spider-Man. Arguably the greatest threat in the multiverse is about to befall the superhero.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home”: Cast celebrates return of old villains
While viewers can look forward to seeing Tom Holland in his signature role once again, Zendaya returns as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Jon Favreau as Happy and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson. Fans can also look forward to another appearance by J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. The director of the two predecessors, Jon Watts, will once again be in the director’s chair for the third part.
The special icing on the cake: The villains from the earlier “Spider-Man” films with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are also returning. Besides Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), there are reunions with the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) and Electro (Jamie Foxx). Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy featured Tobey Maguire in the early 2000s, with Andrew Garfield taking over the costume as “The Amazing Spider-Man” for two appearances. While both former Spider-Man actors denied or kept quiet about a possible appearance until shortly before the film’s release, the hints about their appearances and a summit meeting of all three Spider-Men in the MCU are becoming increasingly solid. Likewise, it has finally been confirmed that Charlie Cox will be joining the MCU as Daredevil.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” – theatrical release in 2021
As part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU for short), “Spider-Man: No Way Home” will be the 27th film in the series to hit theatres, bridging the gap between “Eternals” and “Doctor Strange 2”. Already the direct “Spider-Man” predecessors in the MCU, “Homecoming” and “Far From Home”, have a reference to the superhero’s home, the title fits in well with the series. Internally at the studio, the third solo appearance has the working title “Homecoming 3”, as Kevin Feige announced. The German theatrical release is dated for 15 December 2021.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” – Does Spider-Man end up fighting the Sinister Six?
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers have been working together on the script for “Spider-Man 3”. Set pictures lead to the assumption that “Spider-Man 3” will at least temporarily take place at Christmas. Moreover, the engagement of villains such as Electro, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin and Sandman leaves only one conclusion: Spider-Man must stand up to the Sinister Six.
The Sinister Six is the villain alliance in the comic book originals, usually initiated by Doctor Octopus. In the past, it went by names like Mysterio, Electro, Vulture, Sandman, Scorpion and Kraven The Hunter. They already crossed paths with Scorpion in “Homecoming”, where the villain was embodied by Michael Mando. Back then, he wanted to know from Vulture (Michael Keaton) in prison who was under the mask of the friendly spider. With the end of “Far From Home”, possible revenge plans should become more concrete. There are currently no rumours as to whether Mando or Keaton have been signed on for “Spider-Man 3”.
Director Jon Watts has already said in the past that he would like to introduce Kraven the hunter as Spider-Man’s villain. He thirsts to kill his prey with his bare hands, and Spider-Man is at the top of his list in the comics. It is already clear that Sony Pictures is working on a solo film about Kraven, the Hunter.
