De piraten van hiernaast: children’s film about a pirate family that goes ashore in a tranquil little town and wants to live honestly
Plot and background
The boy Michael (Matti Stooker) is astonished when a real pirate ship suddenly comes ashore in his immediate neighbourhood in the sleepy little village of Sandburghausen. The pirate family Donnerbüchsen lives on the ship and plans to live an honest life far away from the sea. While father Hector (Egbert Jan Weeber), wife Betsie (Sarah Janneh) and their son Billy (Samuel Beau Reurekas) are initially the number one topic of conversation in the village, the tide soon turns.
Thanks to Michael and his neighbour Elizabeth (Celeste Holsheimer), Billy quickly makes friends and the older guard around Hector and the grandfather also find the neighbourhood very pleasant. Problems only arise when the family’s arch-enemy shows up. The pirate Cornelius (Tygo Gernandt) steals the Donnerbüchsen family’s treasure chest. Now the family has to prove that they can also earn money in an honest way and without raiding. While Cornelius wants the pirate family to return to the sea, Michael and Elizabeth want to help their new friend Billy leave the old life behind.
