Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre: spy thriller with Jason Statham by Guy Ritchie
Plot and background
Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) is a tough MI6 agent who has specialised in apprehending gun dealers throughout his career, knowing every firearm inside and out. Because of his prior knowledge of the subject, he is recruited by the global intelligence association “Five Eyes”, consisting of the intelligence services of the countries Great Britain, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
His mission: stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology that can upset the world order. Without wanting to, he has to make common cause with CIA technology expert Sarah Fidel (Aubrey Plaza) and answer to their joint new boss Nathan Jasmine (Cary Elwes). The mission takes the team around the globe to infiltrate the network of billionaire arms broker Greg Simmonds (Hugh Grant). However, this requires the necessary tact, a lot of charm and some ingenuity.
When Guy Ritchie directs an action thriller, Hollywood doesn’t ask twice to be in front of the camera. After both of their careers really took off in 1998 with “Jack, Queen, King, GrASS”, Jason Statham and director Guy Ritchie have been at work together a few times. “Operation Fortune” marks their fifth collaboration in 2022.
They are joined by stars such as Aubrey Plaza (“Parks and Recreation”), Cary Elwes (“The Princess Bride”), Josh Hartnett (“Lucky Number Slevin”) as well as “The Gentlemen” actors Hugh Grant and rapper Bugzy Malone.
In January 2021, the spy thriller was filmed in Turkey and Qatar under strict hygiene conditions, the script was written by Ivan Atkinson and Bill Block (both “The Gentlemen”). The theatrical release of “Operation Fortune” has currently been postponed indefinitely.
