Guns Akimbo: Twisted action fun in which “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe involuntarily gets involved in a deathmatch and has to fight for his life.
Plot and background
The life of video game developer Miles (Daniel Radcliffe) follows a well-worn rut. Professionally he is stuck in a dead end and privately he is still mourning his ex-girlfriend Nova (Natasha Liu Bordizzo).
His life takes a dramatic turn when one day he rummages on the Darknet and pisses off the wrong people. Promptly, members of the mysterious gang Skizm show up at his door and force him to participate in a modern gladiatorial fight to the death. As if that wasn’t bad enough, two weapons are “stapled” to his hands, making it even harder to stand up to the current champion, Nix (Samara Weaving).
The first trailer gives you an idea of what to expect in “Guns Akimbo”:
“Guns Akimbo” – Backgrounds
It should be obvious to everyone by now that Daniel Radcliffe is no longer just the wizard with the lightning bolt scar. Since he was last seen in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in 2011, he has tested his acting limits in recent years, taking on roles in films such as “Horns”, “Swiss Army Man” and “Jungle”. The trailer already suggests that “Guns Akimbo” will also fit in well with his more bizarre works.
The film is directed and written by Jason Lei Howden, who has mainly worked in the field of visual effects in recent years (“The Hobbit”, “Planet of the Apes: Survival”) and is now directing his second feature film after “Deathgasm”.
Radcliffe’s antagonist Nix is played by Samara Weaving, who was last seen in German cinemas in the horror thriller “Ready or not”. Also in the cast are Rhys Darby (“Jumanji: The Next Level”), Natasha Liu Bordizzo (“The Greatest Showman”) and Ned Dennehy (“Good Omens”).
The German/British/New Zealand production was shot in 2018 and premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. “Guns Akimbo” is scheduled for release in selected US cinemas at the end of February 2020. In German cinemas, “Guns Akimbo” will be released on 25 June 2020.
