Actually, Scott Derrickson (“Sinister”) was supposed to direct the sequel “Doctor Strange 2” but turned away from Marvel and Studio Walt Disney after creative differences. While Sam Raimi took the reins for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, Derrickson now turned his attention to the horror flick “The Black Phone”.
The horror film is not only produced by Blumhouse under Universal Pictures, which made a splash in the past thanks to titles like “Happy Deathday” and “Get Out”, but is based on the short story of the same name by Joe Hill (“Locke & Key”), son of horror expert Stephen King. Together with G. Robert Cargill (“No Man of God”) he adapted the short story for the screen, Jason Blum is also behind the project as producer.
