X: Horror slasher from Ti West in which a film crew in the 1970s wants to shoot a porno but is driven away in blood by their hosts.
Film plot and background
Horror slasher by Ti West in which a film crew in the 1970s wants to shoot a porno but is bloodily evicted by their hosts.
Finally watched Ti West’s X (loved it, obviously) and Jenna Ortega might just have the best horror movie scream of her generation – or, frankly, of several generations. pic.twitter.com/1WdyMzSfJF

It’s supposed to be the ticket to Hollywood for ambitious students who want to make a porn film with class on a farm in Texas in 1979. The duo RJ (Owen Campbell) and Lorraine (Jenna Ortega) are behind the camera, stripper Maxine (Mia Goth), Vietnam veteran Jackson (Kid Cudi) and his girlfriend Bobby-Lynne (Brittany Snow) are in front of the camera.
With the help of their manager Wayne (Martin Henderson), they end up at the remote farm of elderly couple Howard (Stephen Ure) and his confused wife Pearl (Mia Goth in a double role). While Wayne initially conceals from the hosts what the film is supposed to be about, strange events soon multiply. Before they know it, the crew realises that they will only be lucky to escape from the farm alive.
“X” – background, cast, cinema release
After numerous works for TV projects Ti West (“The Sacrament”) returns to a film set as a director. He also contributes the script for “X”, the shooting for the slasher took place in New Zealand.
The main roles are played by the horror-proven actors around Mia Goth (“A Cure for Wellness”), Jenna Ortega (“Scream”), Brittany Snow (“Prom Night”) as well as Stephen Ore (“Ash vs Evil Dead”), Martin Henderson (“The Ring”) and Owen Campbell (“Super Dark Times”). Kid Cudi (“Don’t Look Up”) takes on a role in a horror film for the first time.
The world premiere of “X” took place at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March 2022 in the USA, where director Ti West surprised the audience. This is because a prequel called “Pearl”, which is set around the First World War, had already been made at the same time. The director’s plan is to shoot a third part beyond that.
In Germany, “X” will initially be shown as the opening film of Fantasy Filmfest Nights 2022 in March/April in selected cities. The cinema release is only a short time later on 19 May 2022.
