Plot and background
Nike manager Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) is tasked by the CEO of mid-sized sports manufacturer Philip H. Knight (Ben Affleck) with improving Nike’s basketball division. A convincing concept is needed and the basketball enthusiast Sonny quickly comes up with a risky but unique idea. The business-minded manager wants to put all his eggs in one basket by signing basketball talent Michael Jordan, who at that time had not yet played a single NBA game. And the mother of basketball newcomer Deloris Jordan (Viola Davis) is rightly convinced of her son’s extraordinary talent. After all, basketball phenom Michael Jordan was destined to become the best player of all time.
Thus Sonny and his unconventional team paved the way to the cult shoe par excellence: the Nike Air Jordan and made Nike with a daring marketing strategy to the world brand, which has revolutionized with “Air Jordan” not only the world of sports, but also the contemporary culture.

With “Air – The Big One”, award-winning actors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are working together again in front of and behind the camera on their own film project more than 20 years after “Good Will Hunting”. The two Hollywood stars produce the film and play two of the main roles, while Ben Affleck also takes a seat in the director’s chair.
In a humorous way, the drama depicts the true story of the landmark partnership between then-newcomer Michael Jordan and Nike’s up-and-coming basketball division.
In addition to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the cast shines with other prominent names. Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Chris Messina (“Argo”), Marlon Wayans (“White Chicks”) as well as Chris Tucker (“Rush Hour”) and Viola Davis (“The Woman King”) were in front of the camera.
