Plot and background
In the eighth installment of the popular street racing series, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his elective family of speedy drivers were set to enjoy their well-deserved retirement. But when mysterious criminal Cipher (Charlize Theron) seduces Dom and draws him into the world of organized crime, the old crew must once again rally for a risky mission. Has Dom really gone over to the evil side or is he playing a double game? To find out, Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) mobilizes the gang around Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej (Ludacris). And even the mortal enemies Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) can bury the hatchet for now. Now it’s up to them to stop the dangerous anarchist and save the man who once made them family. In the process, they engage in spectacular car races with tanks, wrecking balls, and even a submarine.

“Fast and Furious” has been thick on the ground since 2001. After the tragic death of leading actor Paul Walker, in the middle of filming the seventh part, the franchise was long considered to be over. Only Paul Walker’s brother Caleb was able to give the character of Brian O’Conner a dignified farewell. The second main actor Vin Diesel still wanted to continue the series and announced “Fast & Furious 8” at the end of 2015. As a director, he was able to F. Gary Gray (“Straight Outta Compton”) and Chris Morgan as a screenwriter, who already wrote the book to “Fast & Furious 7. “
The cast of “Fast and Furious 8” consists of familiar characters: So are again Vin Diesel in the role of Dominic Toretto, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. In addition, Kurt Russel will return as Mr. Nobody, originally the villain in part 7, while the most exciting newcomer, Charlize Theron, last earned the role of action lady with “Mad Max”.
“Fast & Furious 8” opens in cinemas in the U.S. on April 14, 2017 and in Germany on April 13, 2017, and was filmed in Cuba, among other places. It is the first time after the US embargo that a US production was shot there. As usual, the action film is released from 12 years. Part 8 will probably not be the last and is to form an independent trilogy within the series with “Fast 7”, “Fast 8” and finally “Fast 9”.
