Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny: Despite the long break, Harrison Ford slips into his parade role one more time and fights as Indiana Jones against homicidal fences and antique dealers.
Plot and background
Already in March 2016, fans of the daredevil adventurer and archaeology professor Henry Walton Jones Jr. pricked up their ears. Disney announced to give the popular “Indiana Jones” series another sequel – theatrical release in 2019. But as so often in the film world, the now fifth Indy film did not go quite according to plan…
What awaits you in the now fifth adventure of “Indiana Jones”, you can see in the trailer:
“Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny” – Will we see time travel? Is it a sequel, prequel or reboot?
For a long time, the rumor persisted that Harrison Ford would cede the whip and fedora and pass them on to a younger adventurer. The thought doesn’t seem far-fetched, the fourth film already introduced Shia LaBeouf as Henry Williams, Jones’ son. Ford’s increasing age (he turned 80 in July 2022) and fitness could be a factor. In “Star Wars 7: The Awakening of the Force,” the Hollywood star was already noticeably unable to handle demanding action sequences as well as he used to. But the all-clear can currently be given: Harrison Ford is returning to the set for the fifth “Indy” film. As filming progresses, one person keeps being mentioned to succeed Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny.” Actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) is rumored to take the reins for possible upcoming films.
However, if the crazy rumors surrounding set pictures are to be believed, “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny” could establish the concept of time travel in the franchise.
“Indiana Jones 5” cast, backgrounds and theatrical release
In the 80s, the trilogy consisting of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981), “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984) and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” (1989) celebrated great successes and built up a dedicated fan base. Another sequel followed in 2008 with “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, which was able to tie in commercially with the old times, but was less well received by fans due to a large number of logical errors. This faux pas is to be avoided in the fifth film.
James Mangold (“LeMans 66”, “Logan”) takes the director’s seat and also contributes the final screenplay. Mangold has already proven in “Logan” how older stars in their leading roles can once again be staged in glamorous films. Shortly after the start of shooting, however, there was a scare to announce: Harrison Ford injured himself during a stunt. But don’t worry: In spring 2022, the shooting for “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny” is officially finished. So nothing should stand in the way of the theatrical release. In addition to Harrison Ford, the film also features a renowned cast. Among others, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Mads Mikkelsen (“The Rush”), Antonio Banderas (“Desperado”), Boyd Holbrrok (“Narcos”) and Shaunette Renee Wilson (“Atlanta Medical”) were in front of the camera.
The film will be released in German theaters on June 29, 2023.
