Buzz Lightyear and Cowboy Woody are the central main characters in the Pixar animated series “Toy Story” in a total of four films. While Woody’s toy history was known in its entirety, Buzz Lightyear was clear that he embodied a Space Ranger who coined the phrase “to infinity and beyond”. The animated series “Captain Buzz Lightyear” from 2000 told of the crazy adventures. “Lightyear” is the film that Andy once saw in the cinema and subsequently bought the Buzz Lightyear action figure.
With “Lightyear”, Pixar wants to take a closer look at the final origin story of the legendary astronaut in a big solo adventure film in the cinema year 2022, which inspired the toys and cartoon series. For this, the role has been recast in the original English. Instead of Tim Allen, the human Buzz Lightyear is voiced by Chris Evans (“Avengers: Endgame”). In the German dubbed version, Tom Wlaschiha (“Game of Thrones”, “Das Boot”) is heard as Buzz Lightyear.
Director Angus MacLane previously worked at Pixar mainly on short films such as “Burn E” and was co-director of “Finding Dory”. The animated space sci-fi adventure “Lighyear” is the 26th feature film from Pixar.
