Netflix has released the official trailer for Oni: Thunder God’s Tale, its upcoming hybrid stop-motion animated fantasy series, which will be available for streaming on October 21. The video introduces Onari, a determined young girl who trains to become a mighty hero in order to save their village from an incoming evil called the Oni.
Oni: Thunder God’s Tale features the voices of Momona Tamada, Anna Akana, Brittany Ishibashi, George Takei, Craig Robinson, Archie Yates, Tantoo Cardinal, Seth Carr, Miyuki Sawashiro, Charlet Takahashi Chung, Yuki Matsuzaki, and more.
“In a world filled with Japanese mythological oddball gods and monsters, one of the creatures’ free-spirited daughters, Onari, is determined to follow in the footsteps of the mighty heroes of lore, but her unique powers are yet to be revealed,” reads the logline. “Does she have what it takes to fight to protect her peaceful village from the encroaching threat of the gods’ mysterious enemies, the ‘Oni?’”

Oni: Thunder God’s Tale hails from showrunner Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi. It is a production by Tonko House animation studio, whose behind the animated films Horton Hears a Who! and Robots. It is executive produced by Robert Kondo and Kane Lee, with Sara K. Sampson and Megan Bartel producing.
