Mad Heidi: Bloody splatter film in which the adult Heidi goes to fight the fascist rulers in a dystopian Switzerland.
Plot and background
The cunning dictator and owner of a cheese empire Meili (Casper van Dien) and his followers rule over Switzerland in a brutal manner. In the war against his own population, the dictator is willing to use any means to make them compliant. The torture and killing methods range from “fondue boarding” to bloody “death by chocolate”. Heidi (Alice Lucy), who has grown up in the meantime, suffers greatly under the fascist dictatorship. Her lover Geißenpeter, for example, is shot before her eyes by Meili’s men and her grandfather Alpöhi’s (David Schofield) hut is blown up. But Heidi is not a defenceless girl – with Far Eastern martial arts and heavily armed, she enters the bloody battle against the “cheese dictatorship”.
“Mad Heidi” – cast, background, cinema release
“Mad Heidi” started as an idea with a poster on Facebook and became the first ever Swissploitation cinema film thanks to an international crowdfunding campaign. 538 people from 19 countries invested a total of two million Swiss francs to make the project a reality. In “Mad Heidi” we get to know the famous children’s book character from a slightly different side. The film promises a wild rollercoaster ride through genre cinema, with bloody splatter and a lot of black humour.
The up-and-coming directors Johannes Hartmann and Sandro Klopfstein bring “Mad Heidi” to the screen and also wrote the script for the film together with Gregory D. Widmer (“Züri Zoo”). The cast shines with shooting star Alice Lucy in the role of the vengeful Heidi. In preparation for the film, she underwent intensive combat training. Other roles include Casper van Dien (“Starship Troopers”), Max Rüdlinger and David Schofield (“Gladiator”).
The age rating for the Swiss splatter fun is still unknown. “Mad Heidi” will be released in German cinemas on 24 November 2022.
