New & exclusively on Amazon Prime Video: The Hollywood remake of a

by Dennis

It was one of the international surprise hits of 2015, thrilling critics and fans alike as a twisty thriller: “I See, I See”. Can the remake with Naomi Watts keep up? See for yourself – available now on Prime Video.

With 85 percent positive votes on Rotten Tomatoes, 81 out of 100 points on MetaCritic and a place among the five best non-English-language films of its year in the National Board of Review ranking, “I See, I See” is one of the most popular, best-reviewed horror films of the past decade. No wonder Hollywood is now trying its hand at the material a few years later and remaking the story in dream factory style – with a star-studded cast and in English. But can this remake match the class of the original and possibly add something surprising to the mindfuck thriller? You can now find out for yourself.

“Goodnight Mommy” is available to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video from today, 16 September 2022. So unlike the 2014 version, the remake won’t be touring the international festival circuit before its official theatrical release, but will instead land directly in streaming.

Those who prefer to stick with the original instead will also find what they’re looking for at Prime Video. “I see, I see” is currently available on several Amazon channels, which you can test completely free of charge and without any commitment. Alternatively, of course, you can also buy or rent the film digitally or simply put the DVD or Blu-ray on your shelf for a small penny:

This of course offers the obvious opportunity to watch both films at the same time, in order to be able to judge afterwards which is the better one. But be warned: there is a danger that the two versions will hardly differ from each other. In case of doubt, we recommend the original – we already know that it’s worth it. The FILMSTARTS review gave it a strong 4 out of 5 stars.

THIS IS “GOODNIGHT MOMMY “

As in “I see, I see”, you can expect a family drama with sinister features in “Goodnight Mommy”, which mutates more and more into a merciless mystery mindfuck shocker with every passing minute.

At the centre of the story is a mother (Naomi Watts, “Mulholland Drive”) who needs one thing above all else after plastic surgery: peace and quiet. So she retreats together with her two sons, the twins Lukas (Nicholas Crovetti) and Elias (Cameron Crovetti), and leaves the hustle and bustle of the city behind. Here in seclusion, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, she wants to regain her strength.

But her two offspring harbour grave suspicions – and suspect that the woman whose face is wrapped in bandages day and night is not their real mother at all. This is the only way they can explain the fact that the newly-operated woman is behaving strangely and not at all like her mother. So they decide to get to the bottom of it. And they don’t hesitate to resort to dishonest means to reveal the truth – and to declare war on the potential impostor…

For the sake of completeness, we also have the trailer for the now legendary “Ich seh, ich seh” by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala:
