After nine “Friday the 13th” films, the makers dared to do something new and moved the 10th film in the slasher series into space: Voilà, “Jason X” was born. The trashy but entertaining horror film is now available as a subscription on Prime Video.
After “Machete” and “Machete Kills”, director Robert Rodriguez had serious plans for a while to make a third film in the series called “Machete Kills Again … In Space” (and there’s even a trailer – including a laser machete!). But this seemingly bizarre idea is not taken from empty (world) space: other horror or splatter series have already ventured into space before, such as “Leprechaun” or “Friday the 13th”.
And that brings us to “Jason X”, which you can now stream unabridged and in all its glory with a subscription to Amazon Prime Video. “Jason X” is the tenth and final installment in the “Friday” series proper, after which there has only been the “Freddy Vs. Jason” crossover and the 2009 “Friday the 13th” reboot.
I really don’t get why this one was so disliked by people. It has one of the best kills and a nice callback kill to the sleeping bag. I guess people just didn’t want to see Jason in space. pic.twitter.com/rjpzbDQQxI

Prime Video is Amazon’s streaming service and is included in the Prime subscription. So if you already have a Prime membership to get packages delivered faster, you also have access to many movies and series in the Prime Video library. If you want to try Amazon Prime (including Prime Video), you can do so for free for 30 days:
In “Jason X”, the titular killer Jason Vorhees awakens from cold sleep aboard a spaceship 455 years (!) after his last orgy of butchery. Earth has become uninhabitable in the meantime and humanity has moved to another planet, but Professor Lowe (Jonathan Potts) and his students accidentally discover the frozen bodies of Jason (Kane Hodder) and scientist Rowan LaFontaine (Lexa Doig) during a trip to the abandoned Earth.
Actually, the professor and the others only want to thaw Rowan, but it comes as it must and Jason also comes back to undead life – and from here on “Jason X” plays out exactly as you would expect:
Various characters have sex and get murdered by Jason, try to fight him and get murdered, or escape and get murdered – except this time it all takes place against the slightly trashy backdrop of a spaceship and a space station, with sci-fi weaponry and the android Kay-Em 14 (Lisa Ryder) thrown in for good measure.
Fans of slashers and not-too-serious horror films will definitely have fun with this. As long as you know what you’re getting into, “Jason X” is very entertaining, even if the film will certainly not end up on any list of the best horror films of all time…
