Good news for “John Wick” fans: Prequel series “The Continental”.

by Albert

Not only “John Wick 4” awaits us next year, but also a prequel series set in the universe of the legendary hitman. This is entitled “The Continental” – and will be released worldwide on Amazon Prime Video!

It has now been announced that the “John Wick” prequel series “The Continental” will be released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. In the United States, however, the format will land on Peacock after the streaming service recently acquired the rights to the “John Wick” films. Fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, because for a long time it was not at all clear how and where they would be able to enjoy “The Continental” in this country.

The series is set before the “John Wick” films and deals with the story of the origins of the titular hotel, which is a kind of refuge for John Wick (Keanu Reeves) and all other active assassins. The series is told from the perspective of the then still young hotel manager Winston Scott (Colin Woodell). The viewers accompany Winston as he wanders through the underworld of 1970s New York and challenges the demons of his past to battle – in order to finally take control of the legendary hotel.

“The Continental” will comprise three episodes, each of which will be an impressive 90 minutes long. In addition to Colin Woodell, the cast includes Ayomide Agedun (“Tribute to Panam: Song of the Bird and the Serpent”), Peter Green (“Pulp Fiction”), Mel Gibson (“Blood Father”), Ben Robson (“Vikings”), Hubert Point-Du Jour (“The Good Lord Bird”), Jessica Allain (“Thriller”), Mishel Prada (“Fear The Walking Dead”) and Nhung Kate (“The Housemaid”). While the films’ creators, David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, are executive producers, Albert Hughes (Episode 1 & 3) and Charlotte Brändström (Episode 2) are responsible for directing.

If anyone should still be hoping that Keanu Reeves will also drop in on “The Continental” – that will not be the case. Not even a cameo is likely to be in the cards. Since the series is set in the 1970s, it would also make no sense narratively to integrate John Wick into the action in any form (except as a small child?!). However, Reeves will be back on the big screen as a hitman in “John Wick: Chapter 4” from 23 March 2023. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can catch up here:
