New on Amazon Prime Video: One of the biggest cinema fictions of recent times

by Albert

If you want to get really excited again, then you’ll get your money’s worth on Amazon Prime Video. Class Reunion 1.0″ by and with Til Schweiger is now available there. A total failure that is really quite questionable.

The times when Til Schweiger managed to lure more than 5 million people to the cinemas in this country with his films are long gone. In the meantime, the “Keinohrhasen” and “Honig im Kopf” maker can be happy if the 1 million mark is broken at all – although this milestone is already four years and three films in the past. The last film to do so was 2018’s “Class Reunion 1.0”, a remake of the Danish comedy “Klassefesten”. If you’re looking to put your nerves to the test once again, you can now catch a glimpse of the Schweiger debacle on your Amazon Prime Video subscription.

THIS IS WHAT “CLASS REUNION 1.0” IS ABOUT

30 years have passed since Nils (Samuel Finzi), Andreas (Milan Peschel) and Thomas (Til Schweiger) graduated from high school together. Now the three men in their late forties are invited to their class reunion. However, this doesn’t suit Nils and Andreas at all, because family man Nils has to deal with his pubescent children Sarah (Bianca Nawrath) and Oliver (Alessandro Schuster) as well as his annoyed wife Jette (Katharina Schüttler).

Meanwhile, the newly separated Andreas is still suffering from the fact that his childhood sweetheart Tanja (Jeanette Hain) has run off with the couple’s therapist. Only Thomas, a successful DJ and philanderer, is looking forward to the anniversary party, but then his dream girl Linda (Stefanie Stappenbeck) forces her daughter Lilli (Lilli Schweiger) on him. Burdened with all kinds of problems, the trio sets off for the reunion and, despite major and minor catastrophes, grows closer and closer together…

LIKE A 1960S GENTLEMAN’S JOKE

The official FILMSTARTS review gave “Klassentreffen 1.0” a scathing 1 out of 5 possible stars. In her conclusion, our critic Antje Wessels writes: “‘Klassentreffen 1.0’ is a collection of flat jokes about sack hair and haemorrhoids, condescending gags about women, gays and the obese, as well as badly timed hilarious slapstick. “

This gives you an idea of the direction in which “Class Reunion 1.0” moves over a running time of a monstrous 130 minutes. Right from the opening, Samuel Finzi is allowed to get upset about his teenage son’s hairstyle and call for “de-gaying”. When young women enter the screen, their physical charms are consistently shown in close-up. And because it’s a Til Schweiger film, Finzi and Peschel are ultimately only there to confirm Schweiger himself in his reputation as an incorrigible womaniser who doesn’t miss the chance to snack on the odd groupie backstage shortly before his gigs.
